Hands-on array · Pecron F5000LFP
Why this F5000LFP setup stops at 12 panels
This is our own array on the one power station we own. For this exact SunPower SPR-E20-330 and Pecron F5000LFP pairing, the panel datasheet and manufacturer input ratings set the design at twelve modules.
Twelve 330W panels is the maximum for this exact panel and controller pairing:2 in series × 3 parallel per MPPT input, across both inputs. Series is capped at 2 because 3 in series reaches 195V at 25°C — already past the 180V per-input ceiling before any cold-weather correction. Parallel is capped at 3 because 3 strings draw 19.6A against a 25A input limit.
That puts 1,980W on each input against a 3,200W port limit, and 3,960W total.
Manufacturer-published specs (manufacturer + retailer listings (pecron.com, Amazon B0GVMSFTXX, ShopSolar)): 5,120Wh, 7,200W AC, 240V outlet, LiFePO4, 4,000 cycles, expandable to 35,840Wh, 123.9 lb. Best-case solar recharge from those specs: 0.9 h.
What is a watt-hour?
A watt-hour (Wh) is stored energy: watts × hours. A 1,000Wh pack can theoretically supply 100W for 10 hours, or 50W for 20 hours. Real runtime is shorter once you count inverter loss and idle draw.
Hours below are estimates from capacity ÷ labeled average watts. They are not first-hand measurements of an appliance we ran. The pack size in the table is a published watt-hour rating, not a runtime we measured.
Example runtimes at 5,120Wh (this pack’s published capacity).| Labeled average load | Estimated hours |
|---|
| 50W average | 102 h |
| 100W average | 51 h |
| 150W average | 34 h |
The panels were bought used off Facebook Marketplace at $95 each for 330W — about $0.32 per watt, against roughly $0.70–1.00/W for new panels at retail. This local purchase is the documented panel cost for the build; the shopping links above are browsing options with different seller prices and shipping.
Known panel spend: $1,140 for twelve modules. The eight-panel interim uses $760 of the same panel purchase price. Wire, connectors, fuses, and mounting hardware are outside the documented panel total.

Why two panels in series fits
Panel open-circuit voltage rises as temperature falls, so string voltage has to be checked at the coldest moment the array will ever see. For theSunPower SPR-E20-330-COM, the coefficient is -0.1766 V/°C (SunPower E-Series E20-330-COM datasheet).

|---|
| 40°C | 124.5V | 186.8V ✗ |

| 25°C | 129.8V | 194.7V ✗ |

Three in series fails at every temperature, including a hot day — it is not a winter edge case. Two in series would need roughly −117°Cto breach 180V, so it carries effectively unlimited margin.
Why three parallel strings fits
Three strings at 6.52A each is 19.56A, comfortably under the 25A input limit. A fourth string would be 26.08A and exceed it.
Going from two strings to three changes the safety picture. With two strings, a fault can only ever draw one string's current. With three, the other two can backfeed it: (3 − 1) × 6.52A × 1.25 = 16.3A. The SunPower SPR-E20-330-COM datasheet lists a maximum series fuse rating of 15A.
16.3A exceeds the 15A module fuse rating, so in-line string fuses are required at three parallel strings. Include that protection when building the three-string version.
The interim step: eight panels, ready to grow
Start with eight panels if you want a staged build. Wiring2S × 2P per input — eight panels — using 3-to-1 Y-branch connectors with one leg capped on each side leaves the final upgrade to populating the empty legs. The capped leg is the part that preserves that upgrade path.
Eight panels is also below the fusing threshold; the fused combiners enter at the twelve-panel step.
When a second power station makes sense
Twelve panels is the ceiling for this exact F5000LFP and panel pairing at this site. More array capacity means adding another power station and its own array; here, the added generation did not justify that extra cost.
Buying used panels
At $0.32/W, used panels keep the documented panel spend low. The tradeoff is mismatch: parallel strings are only as good as their weakest panel, and used panels vary. Clamp-meter short-circuit current on each panel before assigning it to a string, then group similar performers together so a degraded panel drags down one string rather than all three.
